Ravichandran Ashwin is only the second
Indian cricketer to take more than 500 test wickets.
Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin will
play his 100th Test match in Dharamshala. he is poised to join the elite ranks
as the 14th Indian player to attain this milestone. Globally, he will stand as
the 77th player to accomplish this remarkable feat.
Ashwin will be only the fifth bowler in
India’s 92-year test history to play 100 or more test matches. Before him, Anil
Kumble, Kapil Dev, Ishant Sharma, and Harbhajan Singh have achieved this
milestone.
Apart from Ashwin, England’s Jonny Bairstow
will also play his 100th Test match. he will mark his place as the 17th English
player to reach this significant milestone.
The Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamshala is set to host
the final encounter of the five-match Test series between India and England on
March 7. With a dominating 3-1 lead, India is now leading the series.
Ashwin will be the fourth active Indian player to play 100 Test matches.
Before Ashwin, 13 Indian players had achieved
the milestone of playing 100 Test matches. Former star batsman Sachin Tendulkar
tops this list, followed by current Team India head coach Rahul Dravid. After
Virat Kohli, Cheteshwar Pujara, and Ishant Sharma, Ashwin will be the fourth
active Indian player.
Ishant Sharma played his last international
match in 2021. Since then, he has been away from international cricket, but he
has not officially retired yet.
England players have played the most Test matches.
In the history of Test cricket, English
players have played the most matches. So far, 16 English players have achieved
this milestone. Australia is second on this list. India is third.
